General stuff

I do it every time I come back from Hedland.. This is my mid-year weather complaint. I’m cold!!

Ok, I’m done.

Just got home from my second shift back at work. I’m finding it so funny that the kinds of calls that used to leave me searching Seek.com in a huff are now just making me laugh. People getting all worked up about the truck parked across the road just don’t seem to have the same effect on me, no matter what abuse they hurl. Nothing compares to chasing down a 14 year old who’s had his little heart broken for the first time and convincing him to come back into the classroom :D

One other thing I like about this job is that I’ll never again be afraid of talking on the phone. Calling 17 sets of parents because their little darlings didn’t hand in their assignments was much easier than calling rangers in Melbourne. Those guys are bum!

I go back to Uni next Tuesday. Not exciting, but its gotta be done. I don’t wanna go back to being a student! I think I understand what it felt like for the guys that did their ATP last year when we were supposed to. I just wanna get back out there and teach!

Oh well, I’ll survive (hey hey)

The ATP Journey- The End

h1 Monday, July 24th, 2006

So the final week of prac went incredibly smoothly. I managed to survive the full ten weeks; and so did the students :)

I went to dinner with the teachers on the Thursday night to celebrate the end of term and getting rid of me- which means they now get the middle desk of the English/ Performing Arts office back. I headed out to babysit Friday night but the parents got home a little early, so I raced home for a jacket and headed to the pub at top speed!! That meant a night of crazy dancing and a last chance to say “Thanks for having me!!” to the teachers.

And, as if there was ever any doubt (quit sniggering in the back there, enough I say!!) I passed my prac with two Highly Satisfactory thumbs up :D
I figure I’m pretty well prepared to work anywhere; no-where could possibly be as interesting as Hedland!

I can’t wait to see all my little muso’s on Band Camp next month!!

And then Rob came up!! I have to admit that I was somewhat hungover in picking him up from the airport.. But the rest of the week was spent out to dinner, shopping around the town just to remind him what little of the place there was, a movie trip to Karratha, and the climax of the week- Friday night. Which was, of course, the night before the morning flight. Oh dear..

I’m still a little surprised they let us on the plane. Safe to say, Saturday was a write-off. The real sicklyness didn’t actually kick in til late afternoon though, which was awesome because Ben and Tiff and our little man Lukas picked up Rob and I from the airport- that kid just keeps getting bigger!! I mean, I know thats what they do and all, but its quite an alarming rate!!

So its been a fun week of unpacking boxes and getting used to another new place.. Our unit still looks more “moved-into” than “lived-in” but we hope to sort this gear out pretty soon. Its starting to feel like home :)

Holy crap, I made it :)

The ATP Journey 08

The last week of school is upon us. Holy Crap!!

At the end of my year 10 class Friday the kids gave me a big “leaving card” that they all signed, since two of them aren’t in the school this week and so it was the last time I saw them. Most of the messages went along the lines of “We’ll miss you, please don’t leave us here with MnM!” except for the message in there from my mentor teacher who wrote “Please don’t leave me here with these smelly kids!”. He took a photo of all of us together too so I’ll have to get a copy at some point.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it some more: Its really ridiculous how much I’ll miss these kids! Hell I miss some of them now coz I know I wont see them til they come to Perth for Band Camp!

I actually planned to spend Friday night asleep infront of the telly, but a phonecall from my friend Sara fixed that and we hit the pub for some beer and dancing!! Saturday saw us back at the pub for the 21st celebration of everyone’s favourite teddy-bear security guard twins Zach and Corey. Their actual birthday is Monday, so if ya see them around this week (Hedlanders) dish out hugs or hand-shakes as appropriate. Another great night was had by all. I assume.. I remember it all, its just that I didn’t exactly take a poll on the subject before being dribbled home by a friend’s sister this morning.. Only in about the last half hour has the room quit spinning every time I closed my eyes, which has made blinking a whole new adventure today, let me tell you..

Never again. Until next weekend, obviously.

And because I know you’re all itching to know, guess what I will be doing to celebrate finishing the prac this coming Friday night? Betcha got it wrong. I’m babysitting!! I’ll camp the night in the spare room at our friends’ place and look after their 18 month old for the night ;) Which pretty well means watching movies by my lonesome for the night since this kid is the rip-van-winkle of toddlers. I could just about drop a piano and this little guy would hardly stir..

And then it will suddenly be Sunday and time to pick Rob up from the airport!! Yay!! For future reference, ten weeks apart is ABSOLUTELY TOO LONG!!
