Some updates on life

h1 Saturday, June 7th, 2008

I’ll get the work stuff outta the way first. Yesterday the last of the new Schools trainers was inducted. I now have 8 trainers; 8 people who’s lives I control! I’m a bit more conscious of the rosters now, as all but one of them are casual, and looking for as many dollars as possible. I remember those days at Maccas and the call centre, so I’m doing my best to keep it fair. And the travel… Although one of the new girls lives in Willetton, which will make my rostering life a bit easier!!

Bike goes well, although I’ve been sick this week so was lazy and drove.. My wallet is paying the price, fuel is ridiculous! Back in the saddle next week!

Rob’s Granny turned 90 the other day, so we’re heading to Collie tomorrow for birthday lunch. We’ve actually been in Bunbury the last couple weekends, I’m sure Ben and Tiff are getting sick of us!

Mum comes down next weekend for a dress fitting!! She’s making my wedding dress, and next weekend will be the first fitting with the real one- she made a draft in calico and curtain material first :D Can’t wait to go swishing around in the real material, and still with 17 weeks to go!! Sez, we should find some time to catch up and talk about Mum’s dress too, we can show Mum what you meant because I think my explanation just confused matters :P

And Tiff has a big giant belly which kicked me :D We met her sister’s tiny new baby last weekend, Amelia is beautiful. And Lukas is old enough to want to hold her like the adults, so I have some very cute pix of Amelia laying across his lap, just gorgeous. Made me terribly clucky, but Mother has informed me if I put on any weight before the wedding and don’t fit into my dress, I’m in big trouble! Oh well, couple years yet..

I think thats about it for now, we’re very boring it seems!

The Virago gets saddle-bags

h1 Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Yay! I rode down to my Aunt and Uncle’s place yesterday and bribed them to help me put these bars, brackets and bags on properly. Rob followed me in the car to actually get all the items there, as I clearly hadn’t worked out how to put them on my bike..

It involved a small amount of swearing, long lunch and coffee breaks, and a trip to Bunnings because I hadn’t realised that more nuts and bolts would be required! But eventually, everything was put back together in the right order, with minimal spare parts left over.

Check it out on Facebook!

Many thanks to Heather, Steve, Robbie, and neighbour Carl, for coffee, lunch, use of tools, and lots of cable ties :D

Resolutions and so forth

(from meme thing last post)
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

  • For 08, I plan to do well in my new job, take up more hobbies with the spare time I will finally have, and ride my bicycle more.

So far so good, I am doing well in my new job! I love it! Did I tell you people I finally resigned from Insight after securing a new position at St John Ambulance HQ in Belmont..? Well I did. Anywho, as the new Relief officer, the idea is that I am a permanent temp- whenever someone else goes on holidays, I do their job. So the next time they’re away, I already (in theory) know how to do their job, and they don’t have to keep re-training regular temps.

So I’ve started out in the First Aid Service and Training call centre, to get a good base knowledge of everything to do with First Aid Training. You want to do a First Aid course? Call me! I started on Wed, so today, being my third day on the job, I got to take a few calls myself while my trainer listened in. It was great!! Working at Insight gave me a great knowledge base- I know how to talk on the phone, how to sound like I know what I’m talking about (even though I don’t actually know a lot yet!) and what questions to ask before putting the caller on hold and yelling for help. Also in my Team Leader and Trainer positions at Insight I got to know the inner workings of Exel Spreadsheets very well- and that came in so very handy today. My trainer thinks I’m cool :D

And my connections with Hedland depot are useful too.. So far there’s only been one follow-up call to Daddy, but I can see so many more occurring.. Its much quicker than waiting for internal communication to catch up and get us the info we need!!

There’s so much to remember too, but as usual the stuff just gets absorbed by my head and then sticks there for good- taking up valuable space I might add!! The mind-boggling bit is this- I’m only learning one position just now. Eventually, I’m expected to step into at least 10 different people’s roles and sub while they’re away. *faint* Its a challenge, and enjoying it will make it easier I think. Oh and everyone is quite mad, totally bonkers, so thats fun too.

So, stuff in ’08. I’m sure other things are occuring too, but the big startling ones thus far include:
September: Keith turns 21. Crikey.
October (tentative): Rob and I get married.
November: My parents’ 30th wedding anniversary.

Feel free to come up with more earth-shattering news :P Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, and to all a good night!

A week as a Godparent

h1 Friday, December 14th, 2007

Lukas lived, and Ben and Tiff had a wonderful honeymoon- Mission Accomplished!

The proud parents came up last Tuesday and stayed the night, as their flight to Mauritius left early Wednesday. So Rob drove them to the airport while I wheeled the pram off to feed the ducks- a great distraction :) There were a few tears that first night at bed-time, but the rest of the week was pretty smooth. I chauffered Lukas around the various family for lots of visits, changed a few nappies, and found myself thoroughly entertained by the cheeky nearly-2yr-old. “Robbie” came for a visit over the weekend- possibly the highlight of Lukas’ week! We took him out to Collie on Sunday to see Rob’s family, to the amusement of all and many comments along the lines of “Gee, you kept that quiet!!” Then Sunday night Rob snuck out after the little man went to bed- its just easier that way, ok?! We spent Monday visiting everybody again, doing the rounds before heading back to Perth on Tuesday after Daycare. Wednesday morning swung round again, and off we went to see the planes- and to pick up Mummy and Daddy.

Ben and Tiff headed off yesterday morning, and I have to say, the place is very quiet without Lukas running around being gorgeous! Next time we see them will be his 2nd Birthday in Jan, can’t wait to see how much he grows in 3weeks, considering how much he learned and changed in only a week.

And now to take more drugs, and shake the flu both Robbie and I managed to catch off the little bugger..

I think I am B2- Angsty Posting Time!

Stuff that has occured recently.

  • A brief period of self-harm (Which resulted in my legs being epilated. Hard core yo.)
  • A small break down culminating in me taking my hangover to work
  • Several days of silence at a time
  • Apethy. Lots of apethy. But hey, meh..

I’m sure there were good things in there somewhere but they are currently somewhat outweighed. I am in need of another holiday. Problem is, I have two booked and on-coming. The first I become full-time single guardian to our Godson for a week while his Mum and Dad are on their honeymoon. Rob changed jobs and didn’t have enough time accrued to join me as originally planned, because he’s taking the time he does have over Christmas, which brings me to the second one- a week in Parks with his family.

Not exactly the relaxing, fun-filled holidays that our trip North was. I’m looking forward to not being at work, but then I will be in Bunbury with a nearly-2-yr-old, or in the middle of the desert with a dish.

Anywho, in other news I have not fallen off a motorcycle recently. Go me. I flipped a gloved bird at some highly intelligent twat on Tuesday arvo when he thought it would be a good idea to slide his car into the bit of lane that I was occupying. Thought he was gonna get out for a sec but then the lights went green and he evidently had other places to be like so five minutes ago. My respect for any man in a pink tie is gone. Have to admit, it was pretty scant in the first place.

Besides, who gets out and challenges a person wearing armoured jacket, armoured gloves, and heavy helmet..? Twat!

*breath* Nearly time to start thinking about work. Arvy shift and then catch-up with the ladies of the night. My favourite shift of the week, I must admit.

Riding isn’t dangerous, I swear!

So I went on the Ladies Trakdayz up at Barbagallo weekend before last. If you’ve read Skit’s blog you’ll see the Spada and I more or less piked at half time. Neck’s still sore, have to see the Dr at some point and get her to pound it back out for me. And the Spada currently has one mirror, just waiting on the second bracket to re-attach the other one to match..

So I got bored on Sunday, printed out some directions, sticky taped them to my tank (so squidly) and told Rob to gear up for a ride. We went to Araluen, bit of a wedding location scouting trip I guess. It started raining so we headed for the bikes and buggered off- and I low sided the Virago halfway through a round-a-bout. Ground off the edge of the foot break lever, and bent the screw that adjusts it’s height. A few flat spots along the right side sticky-outy-bits, but nothing that can’t be filed and polished up I s’pose. The palm of my right glove has a little gravel rash, and I pulled a stitch on my kevlars, but again, nothing that can’t be buffed out..

Yes boys and girls you read that correctly. I have binned two bikes in two consecutive weekends. Someone must be lookin’ out for me as there has been minimum damage on both occasions. Mostly I’m just p*ssed off!

Now, for the love of all that is good, no body let on to my Grandparents! I’m looking at you Robbie!

And now, the rest of the holiday:

h1 Sunday, July 1st, 2007

A few months ago we both decided to take two weeks holiday from work and do something. As Sez was finishing uni in Broome soon, and Dad would be heading up for a few days, we thought it’d be nice to plan something that coincided. We ended up with:

Mon 18th- flew to Hedland
Wed 20th- drove to Karratha (they have a book store!) and back via Point Sampson
Thur 21st- borrowed my Dad’s Patrol and drove to Broome
21st- 25th- bummed around Broome doing stuff with Sez and Dad
Tues 26th- drove back to Hedland
Fri 29th- flew back to Perth

The weather was warm, the sunshine was excessive, the beach sand (in Broome) was white and full of tiny ghost-crabs, there was plenty to do and see.. Just awesome. Taking only one week would not have been nearly enough; this way there were a few days to unwind, a full week of touristy stuff, and a few days to bum around and see a few friends before coming back.

Of course, we actually caught up with friends within our last couple hours in town- Tom took 20 off the taxi and came over for coffee, then Sara took a break from the BP over the road and came to the airport to see us off!

I’m definately not looking forward to returning to work tomorrow, but I’m not absolutely dreading it either, which is nice. I guess we’ll see what sort of mayhem I caused by my absence (ya know, because I’m that important that they can’t function without me.. pfft).

Happy Birthday Baby Ben!!

h1 Tuesday, June 5th, 2007
And also, we went to the bird park in Bunbury. The following came off my phone because we forgot to pack the bloody camera again!!
The hungry little birdie:
birdie 01
birdie 02
It must be so hard to be a kangaroo!
roo 02
roo 03roo 04

Other highlights include: Tiff won her soccer game! We had birthday dinner for Ben with Tiff’s parents and extended clan, then more birthday beer back at their place, then birthday brekky with Ben’s family this morning (so much tastey food :D) With a weekend like that, its very hard to come back to work in Perth!
